I wasn’t much of a coffee person until I started my last job before the toddler entered our lives. Sure I’d get a Starbucks beverage or something from a local cafe now and again…but I wasn’t very OMG I NEED THE COFFEE NOW until I started a the last gig. I think I only started drinking it because I was the one to make it almost every morning when I got into work. I was the first one in and it seemed like the right thing to do.
Once I got pregnant I switched to tea. I could not stand the taste or smell of coffee until I was close to 7 months pregnant! Can you imagine. But slowly my like and want of a cup came back right before little was due and I even went as far as to ask my parents for a Keurig. Hey I figured I’d have limited time to make coffee and deal with a newborn (I was correct). My wish was answered and the Keurig arrived.
And let me tell you I have put that bad boy through it’s paces over the last 14 months. So much so that I think I forgot to change the filter as regularly as I should have. Y’all DO NOT want to know what that looked like when I removed it this morning while i wait for the replacement. Just know I won’t be letting that happen agin anytime soon…yikes.
But now here I sit waiting still for the mailman to arrive with my filters and variety k-cup box. Hey I was going to make that Amazon order worth it dammit! I prefer the k-cups, but I also have the make your own pod thing too. I also have a pound of Death Wish Coffee at the ready when I feel like cracking into it. It’s good stuff…but I don’t know if I’d call it the strongest coffee out there. It certainly isn’t stronger than my toddler that’s for sure!
So I stick with pods for convenience and because I always have a coupon for them ALWAYS. What keeps you running after your little one? Coffee, tea, energy drinks? Let me know your favorite(s) in the comments.
Happy holidays all! I know I promised a lot of posts while I was free from work. But time with family and friends got in the way, as it should. So here it is Sunday and I’m just sitting down to write. Hey, at least I’m writing!
As far as Christmas gift giving/receiving goes the mister and I made out like bandits. For him that included a whole lot of books (3) by Neil Gaiman, two volumes of Supernormal Step, a card game, new pj’s, and some brain teaser puzzles to name all the things I can recall getting him…he loved it all of course. Thought he claims one of the puzzle things I got him “haunts his dreams”, so I win there.
He got me some VERY nerdy things as did my momma. They know me so well. Let’s start with the book…
The mister challenged me that “If you can kind where I hid your gifts in under 2 minutes, you can open one”. Well, naturally the challenge was accepted. I should also mention it took me under a minute to find them. The above gift is one I chose to open. I haven’t started it yet, but several folks on Twitter and friends who stopped over said it was awesome. Looking forward to cracking into that one very soon.
Why yes, that is a plush Maleficent in dragon form! When we went to Disney World in September you could not find one damn thing with her on it…sure I did find that pin, but that was it. So when I found this on Amazon I added it to my list as a wishful thinking sort of thing. Color me very surprised when she turned up at Christmas! And yes, I have snuggled with her every night since.
In our house we always give pj’s on Christmas Eve. This year was no different.
You can see the mister’s pj’s in this one. But take a look at mine and you can tell that he did indeed pick these out himself. They don’t match at all. I don’t care that they don’t because it’s very obvious that he selected them for me. I also would like to point out those pants have Minnie all over them!!
I also scored some sweet bath products from my new favorite store. LUSH cosmetics. A few bath bombs and some bath wash I cannot wait to sink into. The only problem is I’m sure I shall want to order more (ahem, there are also some items sitting in my online shopping cart right now). I have no shame in this at all. They make great products and would suggest trying them out.
There was one more gift I’m waiting on, because someone in the house is a late shopper…
I have wanted this series on DVD for as long as it has been on DVD! (FYI Amazon has 13 left in stock) And soon it shall be mine!! I am beyond excited. After all Jeremy Brett was my first Sherlock Holmes. While Benedict Cumberbatch does a great job, well…you never forget your first do you? I just wish my pop could be here to watch it with me as that was our thing. That and he did introduce me to Sherlock Holmes.
The husband also gifted me with a Pandora charm in pink (sort of fitting in my love of Sherlock things – see A Study in Pink). Plus so tasty booze nips in my stocking.
As for my parents? Well, from my mom there was the usual small tokens from Avon. But I don’t mind. I like that she gives us little things like that. This year I got a little flashlight for my key ring and a purse holder thing. You know when your out and can’t find a hook or chair to put your purse on? Not to worry you can use this thing to make an instant hook on your table. It’s a clever idea.
But it gets better…
That’s right (sorry they are upside down…they were drying) I now have a TARDIS mug to go with my TARDIS tea pot! It is super nice and does come with a lid. On the other end you see a Maleficent tea mug! Do they know me or what?! The mug in the middle is also pretty awesome from my sister and her mister. It happens to be a really nice travel mug from Starbucks with a lid. I think I’ll be taking that to work with me. I’m notorious for knocking over my cup of whatever at work. This mug is mighty sturdy AND has a lid. So my desk might just be spared. My brother and his girlfriend gave me a gift card to a local department store that I’m looking forward to using.
My in-laws gave me something I’ve been needing for a long time…new luggage. Perfect for all of my nerdy travels coming up in 2015. I first opened this…
I opened this first and was wondering what the hell kind of handbag it was? I then heard my mother-in-law say that it was gift one. I was more confused until…
Well, now it all made sense. I do like it. Also it is SO light! I’m looking forward to breaking them in when I travel to 221b Con in April and again for GridlockDC in August! I’m really hoping to give the whole set a trans-atlantic christening to London this fall (fingers crossed).
Before you ask, all my gifts were amazing and I honestly can’t pick a favorite gift. Because everyone got me things that they knew meant a lot to me and that’s what matters to me….not the cost, but the thought everyone put in.
I hope Santa was good to all of you this year. Feel free to tell me all about your favorite gifts in the comments.
I found that a fitting title for tonights post seeing as I just logged 3+ miles riding my Frankenbike while the Hubbins ran the same miles and then some with me. I’m not a runner. I wish I was. But I prefer to ride. Which I might add was not an easy task for someone who hasn’t done jack in well over three months. To say I’m proud of myself is an understatement. I’m super impressed here people. And I never want to do it again…just kidding. I enjoyed it a lot. I hope to be able to do it Friday afternoon too.
Better yet I’d love to get a little light trail walking/hiking in this weekend. A few of us are doing the Green Mountain Adventure Challenge in September and I’d like to not slow the group down when we do it. Also question for all of you fantastic subscribing people….should I invest in hiking boots? I’m pretty sure I should…my ankles are teh suck. I can totally see me being the one to break/sprain one or both while on said adventure.
I other news I have been super active on Twitter as of late. If you happen to be on Twitter please give me a follow @GalInTheGreyHat, I usually will follow back. Unless of course I go to look at your profile and see that you have a clearly fake photo, no tweets, and a non Vine link in your profile…because that makes you spam. So there’s that.
Let’s see…it’s Wednesday, which means the week is almost over. It also means that it is also “hump” day. So yeah, do with that what you will…
Oh it is also…wait for it…I smile at everyone starting today and I did. My face hurts I smiled so much. But you know what happened? People smiled back! It was a little weird the first time, but then it got easier. So much so that I thought people might think I was weird….well, weirder than I already am. I even stopped into Starbucks on my lunch to treat myself to a iced Chai Tea Latte and found the place SWARMING with folks on the last day of the NYS Bar Exam. So I thought what the heck wish someone in line with a green band “good luck”, and when I did the guy brightened up, smiled and said thank you! I felt good.
Now don’t worry this doesn’t mean I’ll be locking the sarcastic side of me away for good. England would fall people. Well, something would happen I’m sure, maybe not as serious as a whole country falling. But I can dream right? Seriously, ten seconds after I wished the guy good luck I was mentally judging half the people in line or waiting for their drinks. I’m a work in progress people…plus the sarcasm gene is strong in my family. My grandmother has it, my mother has it, I have it…. (I think we all see where this is going…)
Anyway…I should probably freshen up and then eat everything in the fridge. That ride has made me super hungry. Trust me there is nothing worse than a hangry Gal in the Grey Hat!
If you can name the movie…well pat yourself on the back! I’ve had a full week as you may have read in my first post from yesterday. What will it being birthday week and all. Let me tell you I am TIRED. Of course that also might be the late night game of Parcheesi talking too…
There is sadly only one more day of birthday week…until next year. Today was pretty mild at work, thankfully. Considering we were a woman down to answer the phones. The high point of work was def. grabbing a tasty breakfast sammich and nummy coffee that went by the name of Holy Cow. This was the most amazing mix of flavor I have ever had…vanilla, chocolate, AND caramel. Nom, nom, nom.
If you happen to be in the Albany area stop by Cafe 677 between 7 and 3. They do up breakfast and lunch. It was such a good breakfast sammich that I went back for lunch and had a grilled portabello, red pepper, and pesto sammich. This may be my new place for eats…until we move that is. Hopefully it won;t happen too soon!
After work the Hubbins and I had to head to the mall, thankfully we knew what we wanted and got in and out quickly. Then headed to our local jeweler to get two rings fixed. One thankfully was only a costume piece, but it belonged to my Nonnie so that makes it priceless in my book. Sure it won’t be the same as it was, but at least I can get it fixed and on the cheap. I’m also getting a ring I’ve had FOREVER resized. It has to be close to 20 years since I was last able to wear it. So I’m pretty tickled that it too can be fixed for on the cheap.
Not that we’re cheap people. But I don’t like to break the bank if I don’t have to. While we were in said jeweler we were able to get our wedding bands and other rings and things sparkled up. They are rather blinding now…but look amazing. While we waited I headed next door to Starbucks because I was super thirsty and really had to use the loo.
That drink might just be a new fan favorite. MIGHT. There is much I have to discover at Starbucks I’m sure. I want to create the most amazing drink ever there…just to a. mess with my barista and test his/her metal and b. to blow peoples minds. I’m weird like that what more can I say?
In other news I plan to attempt to post something everyday, even if it’s only a photo…so see how long I keep that one up. (I’ve tried this before and FAILED!)
