Happy Wedding Day! {Sherlock}

Today’s the big day…someone’s getting married!

Not these two, even if some of us wish it to be so.
Not these two (but don’t they look handsome), even if some of us wish it to be so.

If you’ve seen the previews you know who it is.  If you haven’t?  Well tune into your local PBS station at 9:58pm to find out!

Meanwhile chill the champagne, get the snacks ready, and lay out your best outfit (or finest pj’s) for the wedding.

Tag, I’m it! #tea #tealove (Thanks for the tag @teapages)

A fellow blogger tagged me in this here challenge a few months back and at the time I didn’t feel my blog was really a tea blog.  It still really isn’t, but I do plan to write more about tea here and there.  So why not?

1) First, let’s start with how you were introduced & fell in love with the wonderful beverage of tea?

Way back when my grandma would visit us for the summer and she would (and still does) always make tea (lipton/bagged) and pb&j on toast.  Many moons ago on one such visit I asked her if I could try.  She gave me more milk and sugar than tea, but I was hooked.  Later in life I was introduced to Teavana (not my favorite) and from there I searched out more and more loose leaf blends.

2) What was the very first tea blend that you ever tried?

I think the first thing I ever tried was something like Sleepytime (which was bagged).  First loose leaf blend was Aztec Fire and Mate Vana from Teavana.

3) When did you start your tea blog & what was your hope for creating it?

My old tea blog – The Purrfect Cup was started maybe two years ago and I thought it would just be a place to talk about tea and the like.  That’s gone by the wayside now and now I have this here blog which I plan to just sometimes chat about tea for kicks and giggles.

4) List one thing most rewarding about your blog & one thing most discouraging.
With the old blog it was a bit discouraging that the same folks were reading it and I wasn’t getting new folks to come by for a read.  With this new blog I’m finding talking about everything and nothing brings in new folks all the time.

5) What type of tea are you most likely to be caught sipping on?
Straight teas are likely in my cup.  A nice strong Assam or a soothing Oolong.  Sometimes I reach for a blend, but that seems to be more of a seasonal thing.

6) Favourite tea latte to indulge in?
I like a early grey latte from Starbucks now and again.  But I’ve started to make my own out of honeybush here and there.

7) Favourite treat to pair with your tea?
Not much since I’m gluten free.  But sometimes the Hubbins makes gf cookies.

8) If there was one place in the World that you could explore the tea culture at, where would it be & why?
Oooh, I’d have to think on that one…

9) Any tea time rituals you have that you’d like to share?
Just making the loose leaf tea is a ritual for me.  But I do like sharing tea with friends.  Something I don’t do enough of.

10) Time of day you enjoy drinking tea the most: Morning, Noon, Night or Anytime?
All day long.

11) What’s one thing you wish for tea in the future?
I hope more people get into tea.  I think most people feel it isn’t for everyone.  That it’s still something only the “rich” drink.

If you’d like to read a real deal tea blog head on over to Tea Pages, she talks about tea all the time!

Stick a fork in me…

For I am done.  I’ve been avoiding the cold thing that’s been going around for a while now.  But I fear I have finally fallen victim to it.  So I will resort to the following:

Hello new best friend. We are going to be very close for the next few days.
Hello new best friend. We are going to be very close for the next few days.

I will also be drinking ALL the Oj!  Plus taking all the zinc and echinacea I can get my ill little paws on.  I seriously plan to attack this b!tch with everything I’ve got.  I refuse to have to end up at the urgent care and stuffed full of an antibiotic, because that just sucks!

Honestly I feel like I should just pick up this item and fill it with the over the counter stuff and oj and make one hell of a cocktail.  Then chase it with the zinc and echinacea.  Because of reasons!

That's sort of how I feel anyway...well minus the feeling like a kitty bit.
That’s sort of how I feel anyway…well minus the feeling like a kitty bit.

I won’t actually be doing this.  After all I’m sure it isn’t super safe to whip up such a cocktail.  But I am going to do what I can to beat this “thing”.  On the upside I don’t plan to be quiet on the blog.  No I’ve got plans for posts and I plan to post them.  At least I have that going for me.

How to you beat the ickness?

Non Vegan Scramble {Gluten Free Eats}

The lovely Zee Lemons had a great looking recipe for a Vegan Tofu Scramble a few weeks ago and I wanted to try something like it (Clicky her name for the vegan recipe).  However, our market had a pretty sad selection of Swiss Chard! So I had to go with peppers instead.  Actually this recipe is pretty Vegan until the end…

You will need

  • 1 red pepper and 1 orange pepper (chopped)
  • 1/2 white onion (chopped)
  • 1 block extra firm tofu (crumbled)
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • turmeric and paprika to taste
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • brown and serve sausage (the NOT Vegan part of this)

Sauté the veggies in extra virgin olive oil (EVVOO).  Once all veggies are translucent, crumble in the tofu (I just chopped the heck out of it) and add in the spices, to taste of course.  Per the instructions from Zee Lemons now you should add in a 1/4 to 1/2 a cup of water to keep the tofu soft like regular eggs.  Now turn up the heat and let the water burn off.

While I was doing this I tossed the brown and serve sausages into the microwave and prepped them for the mix.  Once cooked I cut them into pieces and added them back to the pot to mix in with the rest of the goodies.  Clearly my way is SO not vegan.  But if you take out the sausages then boom instant Vegan goodness.  For me the bonus is that all this is gluten free!

I know my husband won’t eat it…he’s not a tofu kinda guy.  So I made enough to take a bit with me each morning to work (you know if I get up to late to heat up a portion for myself here).

Eat all the things! I had a few spoonfuls to taste it and had to stop myself!
Eat all the things! I had a few spoonfuls to taste it and had to stop myself!

Frankly, knowing this is in the fridge MIGHT get my butt out of bed when I should be getting out each morning.  You know instead of hitting the snooze button!  So enjoy!

Sherlock – TONIGHT!

Finally!  The new season airs tonight at 9:58pm EST on PBS (check your local listings.  But the real reason I’m happy?  I can finally talk about it with all my friends who haven’t seen it.  Ahhhh!

The boys are back and the game is on!

Also I’ve messed about (again) with theme and colors.  Let’s me know in the comments what you think!

New year, same me

My new year got off to a little bit of a rocky start as far as my goals went.  But Sunday I got up (not as early as I would have liked) and did a short (30 min) workout and then made the most massive smoothie I may have ever made.  I think I got three cups out of one banana, two small containers of yogurt, and a cup of silk milk!

Yum
Yum

I then loafed around until about an hour before my mom turned up with the niece.  It was a nice visit, plus mom helped me turn out 18 cups of Chex Muddy Buddies (here).  I even brought some into work…I was feeling very generous.

Monday I got up late which threw off the whole “I’m going to get up and work out thing”.  Instead I was rushing around like a loon to get out the door on time with everything I needed to bring.   Today I had planned to at least get up and do some stretching. This would be followed by making myself a cup of coffee in the french press.  But instead it ended up looking more like yesterday.  Sigh.

Tonight’s plan go to bed in one hour and ACTUALLY get my lazy ass out of bed.  We shall see how this works out tomorrow.

I’ve been busy…sort of.

I haven’t been busy in the sense that I’ve been doing super exciting things.  Just work and chilling out at home.  But I have been trying to cut down on my computer time when I am home.

Sub the blue for brown eyes and that's how I've been feeling when I come home from work.
Sub the blue for brown eyes and that’s how I’ve been feeling when I come home from work.

Long story short…my eyes have experience (and me) 10 eye surgeries over the course of say 23 years.  So being the age I am now they get tired easy.  After spending 7 hours in front of a screen at work every day I’ve been trying to do other things with my eyeballs.  Watch some TV, read, watch the back of my eyelids.  Basically not super eye straining stuff.  Ok the reading gets to be a bit much sometimes.  But I try to at least get a chapter or two in a night.

Anywho I have a few posts in the works.  So stay tuned.

BRB dying

Alright NOT really dying.  But have certainly felt like death for the past two and a half days.  Fine three days.  It started Thursday morning.  I could feel something slowing coming over me.  So I spent most of the day wait for the two by four to hit me in the face or perhaps the load of bricks.

Waiting...
Waiting…

It didn’t happen that night.  But the next morning what I thought would be the nasty cold thing everyone has been passing around turned out to be a very nasty migraine.  How nasty?  It seemed to make the feels from The Reichenbach Fall seem like a scratch.  I’m not sure if you get what I mean by that, but please note I am still having a bit of an ache as I type this up.

So I spent much of Friday in bed.  I awoke to find myself surrounded by cats.  They tend to swarm me when they know I shouldn’t be home and in bed.  Yay, they care.  That or they’re concerned about who will feed them if I pass on.  Let’s go with thinking they care.  Friday night I thought I was feeling better.  Headache appeared to vanish.  So much so that I actually watched all of Season 8 of How I Met Your Mother.  Good news and SPOILER we finally SEE the mother!  Bad news, no more for me until Season 9 comes to Netflix.

So I went to bed thinking I had beat down the evil migraine and won the day by only take a total of 4 Tylenol all day.  My victory was short.  As I woke again with a jackhammer doing it’s thing on the right side of my face.  Back to the couch I went with lots of water and the occassional bit of food as I was a little nervous to eat anything.

I tried to watch some Sherlock on Netflix.  But ended up falling asleep on the couch.  THAT is how bad I felt!  Me turning off Sherlock means I am truly not feeling well.  I woke up sometime after my husband returned home and went back out.  I sort of recall him kissing me on the forehead.  Once I was up again I watched some crappy movies on Netflix and my amazing Hubbins brought me home Chinese food.

Then I ended up falling asleep on the couch until the baby kitty (fine she’s three) opted to start batting around one of her very loud toys!  But I also noticed that my head had only a slight pain now.  So I made sure to eat, and drink water and tea like a fish and it still seems to be going away.

Now the trick is to find the cause.  I didn’t have any gluten, but I did have tomato Thursday and Friday…perhaps that is the culprit or perhaps it was the avocado?  Thoughts?

Do you get migraines?  What are your triggers?  Do you keep a journal of triggers?

Progress! {#Welcome2014}

I posted that last post what an hour ago?  Well, guess what we’ve already done a few things along the lines of organizing the house!  Check it out.

I had to have my signed Amanda Palmer poster and Sherlock poster up in the new space.

The Hubbins also put up a shelf in the living room.

Plus we even managed to EMPTY a box!

We also hung a few photos/posters in the master bedroom.  My knee is still in a bit of pain to go running up there for a photo.  But it certainly is a start!  Now we’re off to sit down and watch a movie!
