Sunday, lazy Sunday

Where the hell did my weekend go?

Oh right I slept most of yesterday…sorry, not sorry there kids.  Well, I’m a little sorry because I HAD planned to work on the writing of things.  What things you ask?  Story ideas, fan fictions, you names it I was planning to write it.  Instead I goofed off on the internets and then had a nap.  There was also dinner to be had with family later at a new favorite spot, The Local – Pub and Tea House.  They have gluten free options and also yummy in my tummy tea.  Win-win in my book.

Will totally have to visit in the Summer months!
Will totally have to visit in the Summer months!

It is a very cool spot in Saratoga.  I suggest you visit when you happen to be in the area.  So we were out late and I went to bed late.  Seeing a pattern are we?  Yet I was up early because the hubbins was up early for flight school things.  Me?  I’ve been nursing a cup of tea for the last hour.  Thankfully it’s pretty good cold too.  You can read more about the tea here.  Yep, I’ve got a tea blog, it’s easier I tell myself.  When in reality it probably isn’t at all.

So today I’m not doing much at all.  I  COULD do laundry.  But I’m not a fan of going into the basement when it’s just me and the cats.  Yes, I am 35 years old and still a chicken shit about the basement when I’m home along.  There I admitted it for all the interwebs to read.  Hell, I’m a little scared of it even when the hubbins IS home.

Our basement looks a little like this…

No thanks.
No thanks.

If it looked like this…

Yes!
Yes!

I’d be in the basement right now!  But it doesn’t so I’ll stay up here thanks – enjoying my cold tea and possibly something to eat.  Seeing as it’s almost noon and I haven’t eaten a thing.  Yep, need to fix that!

Happy Sunday folks!

House of Cards: Where Have You Been All My Life?

I’d heard about the show when it was first coming out on Netflix and I’d certainly seen the ads for it when I logged into Netflix.  But for some reason it took me two seasons to actually watch it and what happened?  I binge watched it for a week!

You should probably be watching this...even if you are a good person.
You should probably be watching this…even if you are a good person.

I won’t spoil it for you.  But I will say this.  You may not feel like a very good person after you watch even one or two episodes.  After episode one I felt dirty and like I needed to take a shower.  After watching the first 90 seconds my husband said “no thanks”.  But I watched and as dirty as I felt I kept watching.  Right through to the end of Season 2.  Knowing I missed something…ok a lot of somethings I’m going to have to go back and watch it all over again.  Soon.

The Underwoods
The Underwoods

I will tell you that Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright are SCARY good at playing Francis and Claire Underwood in the show.  Like you damn near forget that they actually aren’t Francis and Claire.  I think they need some awards if they haven’t gotten any yet.  Just saying.  The entire cast is really great and by the end you may hate every single one of them and that’s just episode 1!  So give it a look and if you like it – great.  If you don’t I’m ok with that.  Like I said my husband was done with it 90 seconds in.

“Happy” viewing.

Notes from the Universe

So I’ve been subscribed to these “notes” for a while now.  But it wasn’t until earlier this week when one of them hit me in the face as perfect…

A coincidence?

C_______, do you think it’s just a coincidence that you look exactly as you do?

Do you think your height, the color of your eyes, or the sound of your voice were accidents?

Do you think your insights into life, your gifts of perception, or your sense of humor were the result of random genetics?

No. You are exactly as you now are, with every freckle, trait, and charm, because they all added up to how you could make the biggest difference with your life in time and space, while having the most fun.

In appreciation,
The Universe

Alright Universe…you have me there.

Did you know they LoJack babies now?

Well, in the hospital they do.  The Hubbins and I went to visit the newest edition to our friend T’s family, Baby A.  We were talking to T about the story of Baby A’s birth (which after hearing that birthing story friend T is a freaking ROCK STAR!) .  I was excited to possibly hold this new little bundle, but I’m not one to be grabby unless mom offers.  After all she was only a day old by this point.  I could wait, seriously.

But when mom’s dinner arrived she asked if I wanted to hold Baby A.  Um yes please!  I have to say I’m in super awe of the swaddling job nurses do.  Baby A looked like a perfect baby burrito!  Trust me I have tried the swaddling thing when my now ten year old niece was a newborn and it came out looking like I was a newbie on the front lines of Moe’s!  As I was holding said sweetheart I noticed there was something swaddled in with her.  Something very hard and very plastic.

So I asked.  Mom informed me that was the baby LoJack.  Well, things had certainly come a long way in ten years.

Safety first!
Safety first!

Back in the day baby and momma usually were ID tagged up the yingyang.  But not these days.  These days the ID tags are still there but now the above little beauties are in place to keep your new little one in the hospital.  In fact if you get even remotely close to the doors with a baby with this on the ENTIRE hospital locks down.  Overkill?  I think not.  Should the Hubbins and I be lucky enough to make it to that stage in the game you bet your ass I’m walking out of there with OUR kid and not anyone else!

As it is you can’t even get into the place without knowing mom’s name.  Again another measure of security I’m happy to find is in place.  It was a nice visit and we were happy to meet our friends new little one.  The really exciting moment will happen when Baby A meets her big sister E this afternoon!  I truly hope there is video footage of that magic moment.

Oh and I’m obviously feel better or you can bet I would NOT have set foot on a maternity ward.  But I’m still taking it easy because last week SUCKED and I never want to experience that joy ever again!

*No pictures to share of momma or of Baby A – sorry folks not my kid, so no pics.

The plague boss, the plague

20140228-101637.jpg

It may not be the actual plague. The above is what a sinus infection looks like when it turns into bronchitis. Of course now my chest and back feel like elephants are sitting on them. So that’s “good” times. Regular posts will resume when I can sit up properly for more than five minutes.

Until then it’s tea, antibiotics, inhaler, and waiting on a call back from my doctor. Sigh.

I’m allergic to what?

Who knew?
Who knew?

Certainly not me.  But I found out this evening at my annual physical that I am in fact allergic to latex.  The response from the doc  was amusing to say the least… “The hell…I think you may be allergic to latex.”

Now imagine no bandaids, but what still looks like bandaids..."good" times.
Now imagine no bandaids, but what still looks like bandaids…”good” times.

So that’s just one more thing I need to remember to tell docs/blood drawing people/and the like.  I also shelled out on latex free bandages and hydrocortisone.  But personally I’d rather not have random skin reactions thanks.

I’ve also got a bunch of blood tests to get done.  I’m getting tested for potential anemia, diabetes, and thyroid issues.  In the past none of these tests have been conducted properly.  Meaning I NEVER fasted prior to the tests.  Mostly because my old PCP’s take was I didn’t need to fast and stop telling her how to do her job.  I always pointed out that I thought I needed to fast prior to these tests.  Which is why I’m at a new PCP.

Said new PCP was also good enough to prescribe me something for the panic attacks.  One of those one and done kind of pills.  Oh happy day!  Seeing as those little bastards have been coming on A LOT more lately.  Hopefully this works and doesn’t knock me out.  All in all it was an awesome first visit.  Now to get that damn blood work done within the next week!  But first dinner.

The game is on!

I know it has been a bit of time since last I posted.  But as you know I’ve been ill.  However, that seems to be going away – thankfully.

So yesterday I received a tweet from a tea friend of mine, Rachel.  She owns iHeartTeas where you can find teas, tea beauty products, and more.  Give her shop a look, you won’t be sorry.  This was the tweet…

You should also follow her on Twitter - RachelKCarter and iHeartTeas

I then asked which episode it was she had watched and I already had my own guess.  But I thought I’d ask.  Rachel thought Series 2 Scandal in Belgravia and I thought perhaps Series 1 The Great Game.  Lucky I happened to have today off and time to run through Series 1 & 2.  I had little to go on, the purple shirt (swoon) and what I thought was Watson in a red shirt and his black jacket.  So I started with The Great Game and came across this during the deduction on the sneakers…

Can I tell you how difficult it is to pause at JUST the right moment.  But I feel comfortable saying that you were watching The Great Game Rachel!  I also recalled that there were no John and Sherlock in the Bart’s lab scenes in Scandal in Belgravia.  Just with Sherlock. Is it possible I might like this show a little too much?  Nah.

Remember the whole not dead thing?

Turns out I was oh so wrong and ended up with a NASTY sinus infection.  Which currently (fingers crossed) is working it’s way out of my system.  Thanks to rest and better living through chemistry.

Regular posts return tomorrow.

Seriously.
