I was going to stay silent on Twitter from midnight to midnight…but then I got to thinking. Did my mother raise me to be silent when someone was being bullied? No, no she did not. What she did as did my two women’s college educations (I’m a glutton for punishment) did teach me was to stand up for what I believe in. To not let anyone put me in a corner and so on.
So I’m breaking my silence 14 hours early. But I still don’t plan to post much today. (Ha!) I still plan to get some writing done, besides on the blog. Reading and cups of tea will also be had. Which also means I’ll be rolling out a new Category on the blog – Tea. You’ve been warned. The Hubbins and I may also try to go for another 3+ mile run/ride today as long as the weather holds. Plus the boring Sunday chores of laundry and grocery shopping.
But for now I’m going to make up another cup or maybe pot of tea and enjoy watching the inhabitants of our large tree come and go. This includes at least two squirbos and a family of birds who have claimed our bird feeder gourd as their new home.
I tried to take these outside, but Mamma Bird was not having it.Yeah where she/he got that APPLE I have no idea!
So whatever you choose to do today…do this one thing too….be good to one another.
Today I plan to stay off Twitter. I know who am I, right?
Well, I’m a woman who is tired of seeing other women harassed on Twitter. So I won’t be tweeting from Midnight (8/4) until Monday morning (8/5), because let’s face it I’ll be in bed by 9pm on Sunday. I’m old, get off my lawn!
Even Georgia is turning her back on the trolls. Good kitteh.
You may see posts from me but these posts are auto posted blog posts from this here blog. AND yes it took me forever to figure out how to do it…so I’m not going to try and shut it off now. Sorry.
If you don’t choose to participate, no problem, just try to be nice on Twitter today. Me? Well, I hope to get some writing done and reading too. Happy Sunday all.
Sure I was up until 1am today…but I slept in till about 8am-ish. Why not later? Well, today was that magical time that happens for our cats but once a year if we’re lucky….Vet Visit Day! Yours truly served as master wrangler of the cats. I lured them all out onto the enclosed porch for treats while the Hubbins brought up the rear and closed the door behind them. Leaving me to get each into their bags…not so easy. Well, Ty practically walked himself into his. But Allie and Georgia put up quite the fuss. But I did it myself…I’m pawesome.
Only two of our cats found this a little unnerving. Those being Allie and Georgia, who ran for the door only to find their escape method gone. Allow me to go back a day with what I have discovered with our cats….they’re characters from The Wizard of Oz.
Ty is our Scarecrow or Scarecat…if he only had a brain. This cat is the BIGGEST sucker in the bunch. He is easily trapped under laundry baskets, given his meds hidden in cheese, and even picked up and placed in his carrier.
Allie is our Tin Man er Woman I mean Tin Cat….if she only had a heart. She’s kind of a little witch. Also a BIG whiner. About EVERYTHING…picking her up, petting her, the list goes on. But she is the least lovey of our cats, unless it happens to be on her terms.
Which leaves Georgia our Cowardly Lion or Cowardly Kitty…if she only had the nerve. Seriously this cat is scared of life at times. She’s gotten better with the Hubbins and I. But there are times when even we pick her up that the tail goes right between the legs and the ears go back in clear terror. Cats are weird.
I love our Vet for many reasons including the ‘We Welcome Our Friends Today’ Sign that welcomes you at the front desk…
D’awwww there they are at the bottom.
We arrived at the Vet just in time. In fact we were early as they had to put us in the “Dog Room” for a bit. Once in the “Cat Room” the Vet Tech comes in to get their weights as we wait for the best thing about our Vet, the Vet. Dr. Burns is seriously an animal whisperer. He takes his time with each of our cats and in turn each of our cats turns to putty in his hands.
All our cats got a clean bill of health and a suggestion for cat food to mix in with their current brand of cat food. Which will help everyone with their issue… Science Diet Hairball Control Lite. For Ty it will help with the vomit issue. For Allie, well she’s a little gassy and appurrently can’t get rid of it…she’s a lady people. And for Georgia…the fiber with help with her need to NOT scoot on my carpets. Yeah she had the extra bonus of getting her glands cleaned up.
Ty cares not, Allie cares a little, and Georgia is hiding deep in her carrier.
A little under an hour later and a little over $300 lighter (these cats needs to get jobs) we’re on our way home. Added bonus to this trip…Allie opted NOT to puke all over her carrier or herself on the way to or from the Vet. Progress! To show them how much I love them they also got to share a can of the good wet food when we got home. So I think they forgive me for their once a year trip.
The other morning my response to my alarm clock was not to turn it off or hit snooze (at first). No I responded verbally with the response I use when answering the phone at work “__________, Good morning!” Figure THAT one out! I sure as heck don’t get it.
Seeing as I’ve never done crack this might be cheaper or it might not. SWEAR to the man upstairs Mom! I’ve only ever tried sandwiches (Please see How I Met Your Mother if you do not understand the reference). So buying these pretty bangles might be cheaper or they might not. All I know is I’m addicted to them.
Someone stop me seriously!!
I added two more this afternoon…well three between yesterday and today. I scored the compass, celtic knot, and aunt charm bangles. You must admit they do all sit really nicely…but I need to stop. This could easily get way out of hand. But lucky for me I a) need a ride to get them and b) am clear out of birthday gift cards….so until my anniversary or something like it I’m done. I swear. Maybe.
I found that a fitting title for tonights post seeing as I just logged 3+ miles riding my Frankenbike while the Hubbins ran the same miles and then some with me. I’m not a runner. I wish I was. But I prefer to ride. Which I might add was not an easy task for someone who hasn’t done jack in well over three months. To say I’m proud of myself is an understatement. I’m super impressed here people. And I never want to do it again…just kidding. I enjoyed it a lot. I hope to be able to do it Friday afternoon too.
Better yet I’d love to get a little light trail walking/hiking in this weekend. A few of us are doing the Green Mountain Adventure Challenge in September and I’d like to not slow the group down when we do it. Also question for all of you fantastic subscribing people….should I invest in hiking boots? I’m pretty sure I should…my ankles are teh suck. I can totally see me being the one to break/sprain one or both while on said adventure.
I other news I have been super active on Twitter as of late. If you happen to be on Twitter please give me a follow @GalInTheGreyHat, I usually will follow back. Unless of course I go to look at your profile and see that you have a clearly fake photo, no tweets, and a non Vine link in your profile…because that makes you spam. So there’s that.
Let’s see…it’s Wednesday, which means the week is almost over. It also means that it is also “hump” day. So yeah, do with that what you will…
Oh it is also…wait for it…I smile at everyone starting today and I did. My face hurts I smiled so much. But you know what happened? People smiled back! It was a little weird the first time, but then it got easier. So much so that I thought people might think I was weird….well, weirder than I already am. I even stopped into Starbucks on my lunch to treat myself to a iced Chai Tea Latte and found the place SWARMING with folks on the last day of the NYS Bar Exam. So I thought what the heck wish someone in line with a green band “good luck”, and when I did the guy brightened up, smiled and said thank you! I felt good.
Tell me…does that look like it spells Courtney to you? I didn’t think so!
Now don’t worry this doesn’t mean I’ll be locking the sarcastic side of me away for good. England would fall people. Well, something would happen I’m sure, maybe not as serious as a whole country falling. But I can dream right? Seriously, ten seconds after I wished the guy good luck I was mentally judging half the people in line or waiting for their drinks. I’m a work in progress people…plus the sarcasm gene is strong in my family. My grandmother has it, my mother has it, I have it…. (I think we all see where this is going…)
Anyway…I should probably freshen up and then eat everything in the fridge. That ride has made me super hungry. Trust me there is nothing worse than a hangry Gal in the Grey Hat!
This is the truth. I feel it stems from always wearing dresses and pink when I was a tiny tot and the hat was a pink bonnet. But I’ve grown up and now the hat is grey and the dresses have mostly been replaced by jeans and tank tops or chunky sweaters and long sleeved t’s, depending on the season.
Sure I wear sandals and all that jazz. Oh and I get my hair and nails did. But that there is maintenance kids, I don’t consider them “girly girl” ways of life. But jewelry…now that’s where we get into girly business. I love jewelry: rings, necklaces, you name it I love it. But as of late I’ve been on a really big bracelet/bangle kick.
I have my Pandora bracelet sure. But that hasn’t been “doing it” for me. So on my recent trip to MA to visit the ever lovely KatyDid I treated myself to not one but TWO bracelets…
Here’s one of them…
I thought I had a photo of the other, but I’m apparently derpy and do not. Too bad…trust me it does exist! But I wanted something else, something different. I’ve had my eye on some of those Alex + Ani bangles. But I for some reason heard they were super expensive. Apparently they really aren’t, plus they actually mean something and some of them even go towards charities! Score.
I think they rock with the tattoo I got for my lost babers and awesome niece.
I was going to get one, but picked up two. The Fleur De Lis is for the Hubbins French Canadian roots. Plus it also represents life, perfection, and enlightenment. I don’t know it was like it called to me. So there it is touching the life I lost, but offering me enlightenment and the chance at new life. (Deep I know it surprised me as I typed it too.) The other is the Dragonfly. Picking this one surprised me more than the Fleur De Lis. Why? I’m not a bug person. And dragonfly’s freak me out. No idea why, but they do. But again I was drawn to it. Then I found out what this one symbolizes….living life to the fullest and embracing the journey.
Seems my head and heart were trying to tell me something! Good thing I listened. I love these two pieces. They certainly won’t be my last. I’ve got quite the wish list going! I’ve even selected a few to give to the special women in my life. So yay for pretty much covering Christmas/Birthdays. I also dig that these bangles are recycled metals and all that too.
But they make me feel really girly and I guess that’s just something I’ll have to love with and like!
If you can name the movie…well pat yourself on the back! I’ve had a full week as you may have read in my first post from yesterday. What will it being birthday week and all. Let me tell you I am TIRED. Of course that also might be the late night game of Parcheesi talking too…
Friday of birthday week!
There is sadly only one more day of birthday week…until next year. Today was pretty mild at work, thankfully. Considering we were a woman down to answer the phones. The high point of work was def. grabbing a tasty breakfast sammich and nummy coffee that went by the name of Holy Cow. This was the most amazing mix of flavor I have ever had…vanilla, chocolate, AND caramel. Nom, nom, nom.
If you happen to be in the Albany area stop by Cafe 677 between 7 and 3. They do up breakfast and lunch. It was such a good breakfast sammich that I went back for lunch and had a grilled portabello, red pepper, and pesto sammich. This may be my new place for eats…until we move that is. Hopefully it won;t happen too soon!
COFFEE is a must after late night Parcheesi.
After work the Hubbins and I had to head to the mall, thankfully we knew what we wanted and got in and out quickly. Then headed to our local jeweler to get two rings fixed. One thankfully was only a costume piece, but it belonged to my Nonnie so that makes it priceless in my book. Sure it won’t be the same as it was, but at least I can get it fixed and on the cheap. I’m also getting a ring I’ve had FOREVER resized. It has to be close to 20 years since I was last able to wear it. So I’m pretty tickled that it too can be fixed for on the cheap.
Not that we’re cheap people. But I don’t like to break the bank if I don’t have to. While we were in said jeweler we were able to get our wedding bands and other rings and things sparkled up. They are rather blinding now…but look amazing. While we waited I headed next door to Starbucks because I was super thirsty and really had to use the loo.
My iced chai latte, with the largest straw ever!
That drink might just be a new fan favorite. MIGHT. There is much I have to discover at Starbucks I’m sure. I want to create the most amazing drink ever there…just to a. mess with my barista and test his/her metal and b. to blow peoples minds. I’m weird like that what more can I say?
In other news I plan to attempt to post something everyday, even if it’s only a photo…so see how long I keep that one up. (I’ve tried this before and FAILED!)
