A Family Wedding Weekend (AKA The Sign of Three the home game)

So last weekend one of the the hubbins cousins got married in a swanky area of Rhode Island.  Several mysteries abounded that weekend including but not limited to the following: what happened to my pants? Where is Aunt ___?  Whose in jail?

Right so we’ll fast forward to Friday night’s stag/hen night.  We pub crawled to the couples favorite bars.  You know much like Sherlock and John had a drink in every street where they found a body.  If only I had Molly Hopper calculate my booze consumption to stay in the sweet spot all night….maybe I wouldn’t have needed a new pair of pants (jeans) the following morning.  Because you guessed it I pulled a Sherlock (him in the flat) me in the parking lot of the hotel.  The only thing missing was me flailing about yelling “I know ash!”

Yep.
Yep.

But for all I know that may have happened as I was spouting on about Sherlock most of the night leading up to my needing the new jeans.

"Don't tell me I don't."
“Don’t tell me I don’t.”

Yet, thanks to the genius of my hubbins (making me drink water and take advil),  I was up and ready to take on the wedding day…once I scored new pants.  But before we left in search of said pants.  My hubbins had a riddle for me…he wanted to know if I could figure out what three of his relatives had in common.  I got it on the third try…they were all in jail!  No one knows the whole story here.  But let’s just say they got out and made it to the wedding.

It isn;t a wedding weekend until someone lands in the slammer.
It isn’t a wedding weekend until someone lands in the slammer.

Which brings us to the final mystery of the weekend…where was Aunt __?  Damn near close to death.  But lucky for her and all of us there’s a medic in the family.  So while she missed the wedding I’m happy to report she’s still very much alive.  Much like James Sholto.

"I believe I am in need of medical attention."
“I believe I am in need of medical attention.”

Now I know what you might be wondering IF you’ve seen The Sign of Three…so whose pregnant?  No one that I know of.  But we shall see what if anything comes in nine months won’t we?

Ugh aka State of the Wrists/Blog

I had hoped to be back to full on blogging by now.  But the whole wrist issue is still a thing.   At the moment there is no relief in sight until Monday when I hopefully get shot full of cortisone in both wrists.  If it works I’ll be back in business…until then, have a cat picture or two.

Ok – Maybe slightly deaded

Sorry it’s been longer to get you all a post. I didn’t think it would be.  But then I got this pesky pain that has come and gone over the last year (give of take a few months) back in my hands/wrist.

I did what any normal person would do when it started…ignored it!  I do not recommend this to anyone ever after what came out of my rush to ortho urgent care.  Yes that’s a thing near where I live.  Which is a very good thing because this happened…

Left wrist and...
Left wrist and…
...the right wrist.
…the right wrist.

Yeah hearing “I’m 90% positive you have carpal tunnel in both wrists was not the way I wanted my Thursday to go.  Odds are good that it is worse in the right (dominant hand).  So I apparently have nerve conduction tests to look forward to and won’t those be fun?  I have also decided to name my two new “friends” – Moffat and Gatiss, because they are current;y ruining my life.

You never know how much you like bending your wrists until you can’t.  I mean seriously not being able to do that one thing makes EVERYTHING super hard to do.  Harder still when both wrists are hampered by it.

Alright whiney baby pity party over.  More posts soon as I still need to tell you all about the awesome that was 221b Con!

Not deaded

Hello all.  Sorry I’ve been quit on the blog.  But I was busy with 221b Con (there will be a post on this), there are so many good feels from the con that whenever I start to write it I get a little misty.  But I’ll try to get that posted this week.

Also been rather busy at work which leads to me being rather sleepy when I get home.  Good times.  Seriously I’ve napped a LOT in the last two weeks and while it was glorious it also means I haven’t written a word anywhere.  Which means I may not “win” Camp NaNoWriMo this year (again).  It happens.

But rest assured I will be posting again very soon.  Just need to find the balance somewhere.

Also if you were thinking about following me on the Twitter @galinthegreyhat and you see the little padlock near my name.  Feel free to add me.  I’ll get around to adding you.  Just a warning I get a little ranty about Sherlock (ok a lot).  So there we are.

Liebster Award!

I had quite the tough day at work today.  So imagine my surprise to wake up (from a much needed nap) to find I was granted a Liebster Award.  I was even more surprised that it came from The Nerdy Girlie (excuse me while I fangirl a moment). Yes, I consider that it came from the Nerdy Girlie a super big honor too.  Ok better now.

Ta-da!
Ta-da!

So here are the questions she sent me:

1.  Why did you begin your blog?  My blog was started off as a way to share things that just happen to come into my head or thoughts/reviews of shows I liked.  Basically a way for me to be the little nerd I am in my little corner of the internets.  Honestly I’m surprised to have people who read it besides my mom…and I’m happy they do.

2.  What is a TV Show that you never get tired of watching and why?  Oddly enough that show is Sherlock.  But why oddly?  Well, if you watch it you known darn well that this show is only three episodes a season and there is ::ahem:: QUITE the gap between each series.  Typically a two year gap.  I have to tell you I was almost tired of watching it after the most recent series aired…mostly because I’m not sure what the writers were thinking this season, but I have hopes that next season WILL/MUST be better.

3.  Share with us your favorite recent read.  “Further Tales of the City” by Armistead Maupin, I’d heard of these books from several friends and at first found it hard to get into reading the series.  Then I learned that it wasn’t meant to be read bits at a time.  This made it very easy to read and the next thing you know I’m three books in the series of seven or eight books.  I swear these books set between the late 60’s up to the mid 90’s maybe are a wild ride with an amazing cast of characters.  I really suggest you go on and read it.

4.  What are you listening?  Right this minute?  My husband is currently watching Top Gear.  So I’m listening to them talking to a star in the reasonably priced car.  This time around it’s one of the guys from Fleetwood Mac!  On my iPod at work?  An oldie but a good one that brings out all kinds of feels… December, 1963 (Oh What a Night) – see question 3 or watch series 3 The Sign of Three.

5.  How do you fight writers block?  Honestly?  Sometimes I let it drag me down.  But honestly I write myself little notes during the day and somehow manage to turn those into posts.  I also have a solid group of other writer friends who tend to gently nudge me/guilt me into getting myself out of my slumps.  Or I’m lucky enough to have something awesome happen when I need something most to write about…good or bad I’ll write about it.

Here be the ladies I’ve selected:

Now for your questions (Please send me the link when you post your blogs!):
1. Have you always written in some way or form (even before your current blog)?
2. Favorite movie of all time (I really won’t hold you to it) and why?
3. Your favorite rainy day activity?
4. If you were an animal which one would you be?
5. Your favorite tea?

Nuked Scrambled Eggs

I really, REALLY wanted scrambled eggs this morning.  But I didn’t want to do all the clean-up after.  Enter my search for a way to make microwaved scrambled eggs or eggs of any kind.  To my surprise if you have a microwave safe cup it can be done.  With that I was off to a super quick and easy breakfast!

So easy and yes yummy!
So easy and yes yummy!

What you’ll need:

  • two eggs
  • about 2 tbsp of milk (i prefer half and half)
  • any kind of shredded cheese to taste
  • other herbs/spices (whatever you like – I used paprika, salt, and pepper)

Now you’ll want to grab your microwave safe mug and some cooking spray of your choice.  Spray down the inside of the mug.  Now add your eggs and milk and mix it up nice and good.  Place in the microwave and cook on high for 45 seconds.  When the microwaves dings, remove and stir it up.  Pop back in the microwave for another 45 seconds on high.  Stir it up, add cheese and herbs/spices.  Enjoy.

I did not think this would be any kind of good.  But oh my it was!  Hello super easy breakfast you can take to go in the car if need be.  Meanwhile, I’m just going to pop the cup and fork in the dishwasher…because that is how easy the clean-up is on this one.  Hello new morning breakfast routine!

I made all of this! {In under an hour.}

Last night at the market we mostly shopped the perimeter of our local Hannaford.  Which makes me happy and also hurts my wallet.  BUT I managed to make a week or more worth of lunchtime yummy in my tummy eats!  I can say this because I sampled everything as I finished each dish.  So here’s what I made in under an hour….oh and it’s all gluten free and almost all Vegan!

Crunchy Asian Cabbage Salad

It tastes amazing even if it doesn't look amazing. Thanks avocado!
It tastes amazing even if it doesn’t look amazing. Thanks avocado!

You will need:

  • 1/2 head of red (purple) cabbage chopped
  • 1 avocado chopped
  • 1/2 a package of firm tofu cut into cubes
  • 1 large package of button/shiitake mushrooms (rinsed and chopped)
  • sesame seeds
  • soy sauce to taste
  • sesame oil to taste

Go to town chopping everything up (grab a BIG bowl – trust me).  Once chopped add the soy sauce, sesame oil, and sesame seeds to taste.  Then mix the heck out of this.  Store it in a container with a lid and pop in the fridge and enjoy.  Looking at the photo now…I should have added some shredded carrots to this too.  Oh well, next time!

Next up on the hit parade…. Cabbage, Tofu, Orange Pepper….Oh My (with a coleslaw dressing)

Oh holy yummy!
Oh holy yummy!

You will need:

  • 1/2 head of red (purple) cabbage chopped
  • 1 orange pepper cut to taste (I went with chunks of pepper)
  • 1/2 a package of firm tofu cut into cubes
  • Marie’s Coleslaw Dressing (I’m just a little, ok a lot lazy)

Basically you make this one similar to the salad above.  Chop everything up to your liking and then toss in the coleslaw dressing.  Mind you adding the dressing here (which contains eggs) probably negates this one being totally vegan.  BUT the asian salad is totally vegan.  Not that I chose to eat like a vegan….I’ve got a steak currently marinating in some soy….but sometimes veggies are just the way to go!

So there you have it folks.  Dig in!

New means of motivation

Today, well yesterday I decided I needed to get myself in SHAPE.  But I am CRAP at going to the gym.  So today I went and bought a fitbit.  Yup, I did my research and picked one up.

Hello bright reminder I should be moving!
Hello bright reminder I should be moving!

Now it had a hiccup or two starting out.  But now that everything is synced I’m not ready to kick myself in the ass for buying it.  I was looking at the fitbit one, but too many people said it was too easy to lose. So here I am with the flex and so far I am loving it.  There’s even this great online community where you can log your eats and other activity during the day.  I’m excited.  I really think this will help me meet and keep goals.

Now where did I put my workout gear?

So now what am I going to watch?

Seriously with House of Cards finished I’ve turned to watching Scandal (from the beginning.  The problem here is Netflix only has Seasons 1 & 2.  And I happen to be somewhere very close to the end of Season 2.  I know your next suggestion is to watch it on Hulu.  I applaud you for this.  But unless I have Hulu+ (and I don’t) I can only watch the last five episodes.

Yeah, this is NOT going to work out for me.
Yeah, this is NOT going to work out for me.

So yes, I am SOL on being able to watch more Scandal in the very near future.  Read TONIGHT!  So my only other option is to return to watching The West Wing for my political viewing pleasure.  Which is all well and good, but it isn’t as much fun as House of Cards or Scandal.  So I’m now taking suggestions on what to watch next.  Leave your thoughts in the comments folks!

Many thanks!

Old School Blogging

Remember those days when you would answer questions about yourself on your blog?  Yeah well, here we go again!  I’ve seen this on countless bloggers sites in the last few days and figured I’d give it a go.  Enjoy!

What is the last thing you watched on TV? – Futurama (Game of Tones) and I CRIED!

When did you last step outside?  What were you doing? – Getting out of the car after work to come into the nice warm house.

What is on the walls of the room you are in? – Posters mostly.  Yep a signed post card from Jeremy Irons (I think that was sometime around his Die Hard III film), An autographed poster from Amanda Palmer the hubbins got me one year for Christmas, and of course a Sherlock poster.  We also have some of my husbands posters up on his side of the office as well as an oar from his crew days.

I had to have my signed Amanda Palmer poster and Sherlock poster up in the new space.
I had to have my signed Amanda Palmer poster and Sherlock poster up in the new space.

If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy? – A house…in IRELAND!  Seriously I have been bitten by the Ireland bug.

So pretty!!
So pretty!!

Tell me something about you that most people don’t know. – Hmm.  I had a wicked crush on Jeremy Irons for the longest time.  Oh and I also had no idea that when I was watching the old Adam West ‘Batman’ episodes that they were already 20 years old at the time and I’d had a crazy crush on Robin.

What was the last thing you bought? – for me? Tea (duh).  For the house – groceries.

Would you go bungee jumping or sky diving? – No thanks.

If you could eat lunch with one famous person, who would it be? – Oh wow.  Hmm.  I would LOVE to sit down with Kevin Spacey and ask him about all of the films he’s been in and so much more. The man is an acting genius!  Please give him all the awards.

Which store would you choose to max out your credit card? – Jeez these just keep getting tougher… I love me some Old Navy!

Is the glass half empty or half full? – You know I don’t even have a glass anywhere near me.  In fact I don’t think I’ve had anything to drink since I left work…oopsie.

What’s the farthest-away place you’ve been? – Ireland or well, I guess England.

What’s under your bed? – Certainly a cat and I’m hoping some socks that said cat pulled under there and that had better be it.  Because I am a total chicken shit and now fear there’s something under the bed.  Awesome.

What is your favorite time of the day? – I like a quiet morning where I can make a cup of tea and just watch the world go by.  BUT I really love the gloaming.  (aka dusk)

What Inspires you? – Creativity from my favorite authors.  I’m looking at you Neil Gaiman.
